Special Days in Second Grade

This year my team teacher, KT, and I have planned several special days in second grade.

Our most recent special day was the ever popular 50th day of school. I purchased a great mini unit from TPT. You can find it here. KT and I had to "beef" it up a little. I added a few problem solving and combination activities to make it perfect for our super students.

We also had bat and owl day. KT planned a bat day while I planned an owl day. After both sessions the students completed a Venn diagram comparing and contrasting the features and characteristics of owls and bats.

I had the students write down questions they had about owls and we used them as a starting place for our owl research.

We also had apple and pumpkin themed days.

The students and I worked on possible combinations for Jack O'Laterns. The students then worked in teams and explained their math thinking. Oh and then we took a survey, used data to make our decision, and then carved our pumpkin! SUPER fun!

I love it! KT plans for authentic reading and writing activities. Here the students worked on similes and  text connections. I worry about the science and math of it all and KT handles the language arts.

Such special days in second grade! We are all learning, improving, and making memories!

A New Adventure

Last May, my principal asked me to move up to second grade and team teach. I love my firsties but I enjoy a new challenge.

So I made the move and I'm lovin' it.

My team teacher and I have 47 SUPER students. I teach math and science and KT, my team teacher, teaches language arts.

So in the 52 short days that I've been a team-teaching math and science teacher I've learned that I have A LOT to learn. This blog is dedicated to my learning adventure.
